TRACKING SENSATIONS

What do I notice in my body?

  • In Somatic Experiencing we allow ourselves time and space to s l o o o w . . . e v e r y t h i n g . . . d o w n.

  • This gives our system permission to stop, orient to our surroundings, arrive, and settle into the space where are able to access what we are feeling in our bodies.

  • With a gentle childlike wonder, we partner with curiosity, and start to notice and listen to the language of our nervous system. The language of the felt sense, sensations which are present in our bodies in the here and now.

  • We begin to watch, listen and follow these sensations, tracking the changes and experiences in the body, both pleasurable and uncomfortable ones.

  • This time and awareness gives our nervous system the opportunity to reorganize itself and work in the miraculous and divine way it was designed to.

  • To create a safe space for the nervous system to be able to reorganize itself and regulate back into a resilient and healthy state of being, we stretch our ability to hold pleasurable/”good” sensations, creating a bigger container to hold the more difficult ones.

  • Then we pendulate between the comfortable and bite sized pieces of the uncomfortable sensations, which provides an opportunity for discharge to happen in the system.

  • Less mind, more body. The innate wisdom of the body will guide itself, if we give it the space to do so, thus enabling the resolution of trauma and discharging chronic stress.
