RESOURCING OUR SYSTEM
What is it and why is it so important?
A resource is anything which helps bridge access to deeper connection, ushering in calmness and lessening activation in our nervous system.
Resources can be both from internal sources (such as our faith, strengths, and capabilities, etc.), and/or from external sources (such as positive experiences, places, people, material items, smells, sounds, etc.). We use the goodness of available resources to anchor our present experience in a place of safety, comfort, ease, and calmness.
Resourcing our system helps us to settle, and as we track, experience and hold these positive sensations in our body we stretch and grow our container, so that we have the capacities needed to manage the process of renegotiating trauma without being overwhelmed.
Building resources helps set the safe foundation on which one can begin to process trauma.
